Baldfaced Marketing Ploy Take 712

OK, I think I managed to upload a copy of my soloset at Loveland up to my lulu page. Here's the address to the page

      http://www.lulu.com/content/digital-video-disc/lightning-over-loveland/7830156

hope that works. Sorry I'm selling it, but honestly I couldn't figure out how to email copies out as attachments (as everyone in my address book will attest to, even those who didn't know they were in my address book. Hi, Moe!) but I was, I believe, successful in posting it for sale at the low, low, low price of $12.50  at my lulu.com page. Where it now sits alongside my for sale copies of Punk Rock Blues Vols 1 and 2 and free downloads of stuff from same. So, if yer not doing anything come on over for a visit if only to make fun of me or to tell me to cease and/or desist.

havin' too much fun, y'all

Neck Bone Jones' Amateur Half Hour

Sorry eyc. Old man Byrnes put his back out sleeping. Sleeping, I say. That's how old I am. Took me 2, count 'em 2 days to recover from my weekend getaway to Loveland. Which was amazing, btw. Got up there in one piece and never really got lost and got to see Carl again. Hadn't seen Marion in like 25 years and had NEVER MET his daughters Amy and Jess (Hi Amy! Hi Jess! Hi Marion! Say hi to Dave and Pete for me!). Got to say everybody made me feel as welcome as family and, well, that wasn't wasted.

Got in around 8:30 'cause I drive like an old man cause I am an old man and when Simmons came out the house it was like I had just seen him yesterday. He had the p.a. already set up and spaghetti onj the stove. A great time was had just talking, which was cool 'cause we were all working so hard during the Envelope reunion we didn't get much time to just  be.

And we be fine, thank you very much.

Spent a few hours the next morning attempting to record some of my stuff, half as a way to set the p.a. and half just to get some tunes on tape. Unfortunately I kept playing wrong chords and forgetting lyrics and just sucking overall that Carl, in his infinite wisdom and compassion suggessted we go for a walk through the Sculpture Park.

A word on Loveland, Colorado. It's a beautiful city and Carl's house, just off Lake Loveland has a view like an oil painting in a 5th Ave.psychiatrist's waiting room. Really, that classy. Admittedly I didn't see much, but what I saw was choice. Dazbog,s Coffee House (hope I spelled that right) made every morning feel like 14th st in the Village and the aforementioned Sculpture Park was not only interesting in and of itself but also spoke well of the communities priorities, artistic proclivities and opportunities, perhaps bountiful opportunities, for an enterprising metal working sculptor.

Hint, hint, Neblung. Santa's trying to make it to town.

But anyway, the show was set to start at 7:00 and headliner Mike Roe and middle act Mike Miller didn't roll in until like 6:15 and people were there already and Dave (Hi, Dave!) was having a hard time getting the monitor to work and, truth be told, Mike Roe was being a little testy about it. Keep in mind the room was basically a good sized living room w/maybe 30 people in it. The brother could have played the set unamplified and everyone would have loved him but (and I guess this is where the professionalism comes in) Mike wanted everything just so and became frustrated, which was understandable, and rude, which wasn't, not so much.

In any event, Carl made the command decision to go w/out the monitor in as courteous a manner as EVER displayed by a concert promoter and next thing I knew I had strapped on the V and was a=singin' for the people.

And I rememberede almost all the words and I played almost all the right chords and got through 6 tunes w/something approaching grace. Sold 3 CD's (yay!! and thank you) and had cool conversations w/cool people in Carl's kitchen. Mike Miller then played a set of languid, cool jazz tunes somewhere between Neil Young and Steely Dan. Very cool. Mike Roe was interesting; multiple alternate tunings and capos gave his guitar a fullness that supported his songs of faith and struggle like a full band. Very cool tunes, very cool sonics, VERY cool guitar playing.

Towards night's end I hung out in the kitchen w/ the pros and ate fajitas and got to know Mikes Miller and Roe a little better and found them both to be really cool people doing exactly what it is I want to do.  More reports as events warrant, but in my opinion, the out of town tryout in Loveland was a success and I'm ready to do this again and again. Thanks, Carl, for giving me the chance. I love you, brother.

Wilder Blue Yonders

so I'm at Rob's making copies of the Envelopes DVD, getting ready to drive Steve's car up to Loveland to play a set at Simmons' house, attempting to convince myself I'm not nervous.  Got the acoustaV all shined up and have no real idea what I'm gonna play at my 1st solo set in like 10 years. And I'm opening for a pro: Mike Roe, check him out, he's cool. But a pro, and an old pro at tha. I'm not criticizing (for once), really, I've got/am getting those 'in over yr head' blues because what I'm about to do requires faith, if only in myself, and we all know how I and Archie Bunker feel about faith...

"Faith is when ya believe somethin' no one in their right mind would believe." - Archie Bunker

there's been little to no work this week and I'll bet my recession can beat up yr recession yet I'm spending what little I have to make this trek, to see my friends and to do what I do; play music. Not for money, but for self identification. Oh, jeez, I'm still looking for validation via 3 chords.

beats still working graveyards at the convenience store. the loud will provide.

tb

(ps: if you love rock and roll - and who doesn't? - go to youtube saerch Mott the Hoople, sort by newest video and feast yr eyes and ears on footage of their entire 3 day run of reunion shows at London's Hammersmith Apollo. seriously, GO NOW!!!!!}
