My Bloody Hootenanny Live!

As anyone who's read Carl Simmons' Burning Light page (see link at left) knows I've somehow been invited to open a show for underground Christian Music legend (if that's not too strong a word) Mike Roe at The Church at Lake Loveland, aka Carl's house. I am honored to be invited and of course I'm going to do it. The event takes place on Friday Oct. 16th and, as usual, I'm hoping to have audio and video documentation and w/Simmons in charge I'm more confident than usual that this will come to pass.

I spoke w/Carl earlier and I recognized the excitement in his voice at the sudden rush of joy and fear that is concert promotion. I can only imagine how imuch more itensified it must be for Simmons in that he's doing it on a much larger scale than the Fowler Theater shows I've thrown together and the fact that (and you know I love you brother) he knows about as much about PA systems as my cat Hausenpfeffer.

Now since I know 3 more things about PA systems than my cat Hausenpfeffer I'd like to humbly offer what little wisdom I have on the subject.  From what you've told me about the size of the room and crowd and the type of music I'd suggest you get a Peavey XR600 (or whatever Peavey's equivalent is these days) w/2 115 International speaker cabinets, a Peavey Wedge monitor (or 2) 2 or 3 mikes (ask for Shure SM 57's or equivalent) w/cables, stands and clips. Also get 3 speaker cables, 25 footers should do and Bob's yr uncle!

Seriously, it's like the Industry Standard PA rental rig at most music stores. It's got 300 watts of power, a seperate monitor amp built in, tape ins and outs so you can record the sets live as well as play CDs or whatever through while folks are taking their seats, between sets etc. If nothing else you'll sound like you know what yr talking about when you go to the music store (which I recommend; that quasi NASCAR guy you mentioned makes me nervous. I've been out of the game awhi,e but we used to rent a similar set up at Axe Haven for maybe $75 and what w/you being a church you'll probably (and deservedly) get a deal. And don't worry I'll get there Thursday night to help unload, set up and soundcheck.

If I may be so bold.

Anyhow, I'd like to thank Carl again and publicly for giving me this opportunity. Lawd, it's gonna be a hoot!

A Few For the Even Fewer

Once again, I find myself showing up out of breath due to another prolonged absebce. Sorry to whoever might still be checking in here. In Tension Envelope news, Neblung has the camera and we hope (key word here) to have DVD representation of the spectacle  that was Envelopia '09.

In poltical news Sarah Palin is still an idiot and Barack Obama is a better president then we desreve, even though the brother disappoints an aging radical leftist, a deisrably vanishing breed I suspect. such as myself.

In religious news Richard Dawkins has made the argument against god far better than I ever could in his book 'The God Delusion', borrow it from yr library if tey're not Christofascist (I had to go 30 miles to find an enlightebed Library. Thanks, Lynn!). There's yr reasoned argument, Jim, and lucky you nHE HAS A WEBSITE!!!!!!

In music news the new record (working title:My Bloody Hootenanny) is almost finished. Dan is still sick so Flashback is on permanent hold and I'm doing my 1st solo gig on Sept. 11th at a 'biker bar' in Pueblo called Sir Roberts. Details and hopefully tape, maybe video of the 'event'.

Switched jobs again after 1 too many graveyard shifts and am now hauling trash, painting houses and basically doing whatever the rich whiote folk don't want to do themselves. Tired but happy and just about as poor.
