And the Beaten Go On: The Christian Right Would Be Funny As Hell If They Weren't So Goddamn Dangerous

1st off, does anyone really think thaat that's what the 'virgin' Mary actually looked like? A 1st century jewish girl rocking a peaches 'n' cream complexion and an Ingrid Bergman nose? At the risk of sounding racist, because I am, because on some level we all are, I don't think so.

And a 1st century Nazarene carpenter's son would surely look more like Osama Bin Laden than, say, Kenny Loggins. Hell, he might even think more like Osama Bin Laden than, say, Kenny Loggins. I mean might not this man of peace, forgiveness and charity see the West as a New Babylon and America as it's Whore? Might not the man who purportedly put Christ in Christmas view what America has become, w/it's illegal wars and torture programs, wenal political systems, rampant racism and ongoing social inequities, radical disparity of wealth and, lord, the hypocrosy; might not Jesus see America as something horrible. A great Satan, perhaps?

No, according to Jim and many others, Jesus would be a Republican. Meaning what? That Jesus is against healthcarde reform but OK w/adultery? Would he buy perjury w/shoes and think catsup is a vegetable? Would he be this scared that there's a black man in the White House? Would he say 'black man'?

See how fast it gets stupid when we pretend to know the mind of god? Which brings me, of course, to Sarah Palin.  Most kidding aside (I'm not going to stalk her on twitter. i hate stalkers) I do have one question for citizen Palin and this is as respectfully as I can ask it: At yr farewell speech you promised to 'fight for what's right and for truth,' Could you be a little more vague?

And the horrifying thing is that line, which means less than nothing, received riotous applause. She never elucidated what she perceives as rright and true because she doesn't see her perceptions as perveptions. She sees her perceptions as an all encompassing one stop shop of absolute truth and so do her followers and aplogists now srtaying from the Republican Party because it's not backward or racist enough for them, into the Crazy Ass White People's Party.

I fear that the culture war will soon no longer be a metaphor. There's a sense of entitlement to reighteousness being displayed lately by the likes of Americans For Prosperity, that corporately funded front group that issues handbooks to people telling them how to disrupt civil discourse at Town Hall Meetings while pretending to be both grass roots and pro-Democract. Then there's that crew at C Street more to come on these punks soon, trust me), not to mention the whole above the law mentality of the Bush/Cheney junta and theeir remaining messes. Please. That kind of arrogant claim to authority by divine right always, always ends in violence. It's happenning already. George Tiller. Gunfire coming soon to a Town Hall near you.

And the saddest thing, to  me, is that no matter what side one takes in the culture war, tthe world will alawys win. The scary thing is that the world is on the brink of major changes. Like it or not White American rule is dying. The '50's are over and that outdated, false moral model no longer applies.

The Christian Right cannot stand this. Neither can they stop this. Evolution, remember Oh, stands will be taken and last stands will be made and, as usual, too many people will die, but ultimately the faction of the Republican Party, of the world, that loves Jesus and hates niggers will no longer matter and their hatred will be irrelevant.

If I believed in god I'd pray that day comes soon. But for now, brothers and sisters, I'd keep my head low.
